CITL Symposium 2019
Theme
Promoting Student Engagement by Combining Online Learning with Classroom Instruction
Blended teaching is gradually increasing in Japan such that students watch lecture videos before class and engage in group practice and activities in class. However, it does not necessarily work as expected merely by assigning lecture videos and then engaging students in group discussion.
In this symposium, we will invite Elizabeth F. Barkley, the author of “Interactive Lecturing” (Jossey-Bass), and Katsusuke Shigeta, who leads his group for online learning material development at Hokkaido University as guest speakers, followed by roundtable discussion with our audience in instructional design and classroom management to promote student engagement in online learning and classroom instruction.
